Boca Raton travel agency ranks in top 500 e-commerce businesses
The recent downturn of faith in e-commerce companies has not scared Lodging.com’s leaders.
“We have grown tremendously since last year – our sales have doubled since September of 1999,” said Vice President of Technology Edward Silver. “The best news is that we do not expect to stop.”
As an Internet travel agency, Lodging.com is classified in one of the largest, fastest growing e-commerce categories on the Web – travel. According to a report released last week by Jupiter Communications, online sales in leisure and unmanaged business travel are expected to reach $28 billion in 2005. The report also stated that in 1999, travel sales hit $6.5 billion, nearly triple the $2.2 billion in 1998.
Interactive Week announced the rankings in March after performing a study in conjunction with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The study was the first-ever ranking of leading e-commerce companies.
At this time, Lodging.com employs more than 35 people, owns a travel agency in Stuart, FL, and processes more than 2000 hotel reservations per week. Media Metrix, PC Data Online and Top9.com rank Lodging.com among the top 25 most popular travel sites. This site can be found at http://www.lodging.com.
