WOMEN BUSINESS TRAVELERS GET DEDICATED CHANNEL ON WORLDROOM.COM

“Female executives make up about 25 percent of business travelers in Asia alone,” said Tina Nepomuceno-Di Cicco, executive vice president of Worldroom.com and founding partner of I-Quest Corporation. “They don’t necessarily have special needs, just different from their male counterparts.”

Worldroom.com is the web arm of I-Quest Corporation, a global provider of broadband Internet services to the hospitality industry and the creator of one of the most comprehensive online resources for the business travelers. Nepomuceno-Di Cicco said the women’s channel, aptly called Women’sWorld, will be featured in the Internet content offered in more than 50,000 hotel rooms under contract for I-Quest’s Internet solution, Worldroom Connect.

“While Women’sWorld will be available to anyone with Internet access, our unique network of guestrooms in some
170 hotels worldwide will give us an unprecedented opportunity to serve women business travelers exactly in their time of need,” she said.I-Quest’s Worldroom Connect broadband Internet solution allows travelers to simply plug their network-enabled laptop computers into a connection box in their hotel rooms and get high-speed, plug-and-play access to the Internet. When a user logs onto the Worldroom Connect system, the first web page they see is a local city guide and other relevant information provided by Worldroom.com’s extensive network of business and travel reports across Asia and Europe.Nepomuceno-Di Cicco said Women’sWorld draws on the resources of Worldroom.com to provide unique insights and advice to help business women get their jobs done on the road.”The women executives and editors in the company took a very hands-on approach in the project as many of us travel frequently and juggle a variety of roles,” Nepomuceno-Di Cicco said. “They shared first –hand experiences and tips which provided an excellent starting point.”

Women’sWorld includes business features for women in management, helpful articles for women dealing with a foreign culture and sensitivities, how to handle parenting while on the road, tips on travelling alone, book reviews, guest columns by well-known personalities, helpful links and much more. The channel also looks into the special needs of women who are pregnant, travelling overseas for the first time, or accompanied by children on business tripsEssential Tips on Women’sWorld provide useful information on health and safety, networking, packing for business trips, how to avoid harassment and lessen culture shock.Women’sTravel 101 on this new channel provides basic and first-hand information through an on-line forum where women travelers share their experiences and helpful tips.

“We believe that the best advice would be from women, for women,” Nepomuceno-Di Cicco said. “We wanted to solicit feedback, and use this as a platform to build a direct relationship with our users. For
instance, many women travelers are not aware that some hotels have an all-women guest floor or guestrooms with extra amenities like shorter bathrobes, bath salts and reading materials for women. These are the insider tips that we want to share with other women travelers.”

A frequent business traveler herself, as well as a mother of two, Nepomuceno-Di Cicco was personally involved in the conceptualization and development of Women’sWorld. She works closely with the editorial and design teams to shape content, the site aesthetics as well as the ease of navigation.

Women’sWorld will be launched in Singapore, Hong Kong and Manila in June 2000, and is now live on www.worldroom.com.
