Captain Parker’s historic Wendameen is entering her 15th year of sailing on Maine’s Penobscot Bay. Since 1990, the Wendameen has welcomed over 7,000 vacationers who have shared in a true Maine experience.
The adventure begins daily at 2 p.m. While crew and passengers join to hoist sail Captain Parker steers his schooner to the outer harbor. Once underway, guests unwind on the spacious deck while the Wendameen sails the secluded waters of Penobscot Bay.
After an exciting and unforgettable afternoon of sailing, the Wendameen anchors in a peaceful harbor with tantalizing views of the sunset and coastal mountains. A hearty dinner prepared on board is served against a backdrop of fir-covered islands, clapboard cottages and old world mansions dotting the shore. In the evenings, passengers may stay on deck to stargaze and share conversation, or gather below in the comfortable saloon.
Sleeping quarters are cozy and filled with plenty of fresh air and sunlight. The Wendameen will accommodate individuals, couples and small groups. Up to fourteen overnight guests can be accommodated.
In the morning, while aromas of brewing coffee and fresh muffins drift through the cabins, a few volunteers help hoist the anchor. By 9 a.m., the cruise returns to Rockland Harbor, in plenty of time for guests to take in their next Maine adventure.
Swift and graceful, the 67’ Wendameen is legendary among the windjammer fleet. The elegant 1912 Post-Victorian schooner was built in Maine for a wealthy New England railroad magnate. Following Captain Parker’s four-year restoration the Wendameen was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. She is a living, sailing, museum.
The Wendameen sails seven days a week, early June through late September, from the North End Shipyard in Rockland, Maine
