Kootenay Lake tourism takes a new turn with innovative experiential vacation packages
An innovative concept is taking wing this tourism season in the Kootenay Lake area.
Smaller tourism-industry businesses working together to create packages and tours offering a variety of experiences is on the upswing, and government-funded organizations such as Tourism Action Society in the Kootenays (T.A.S.K.), Western Canadian Wilderness Explorers Club and Kootenay Rockies have been supporting the process of bringing businesses together to create and market new tourism products.
It's an idea that's gaining popularity with active vacationers, as well. "More people are taking vacations where they get an opportunity to learn about something unusual or experience something new," says Mike Rowland, Marketing Committee Chair of the Kootenay Lake Chamber of Commerce and co-owner of Kootenay Bay's Tara Shanti Lodge.
The Tara Shanti Lodge has joined together with sixteen of the area's business owners to develop a series of three innovative vacation packages in and about Kootenay Lake, one of British Columbia's best holiday destinations in Canada. Designed specifically for the active 40- to 60-year-old vacationer, these week-long, all-inclusive packages were developed to meet the growing demand in the tourism market for experiential and learning vacations, and carefully planned by the Tara Shanti to ensure the quality of experience.
The Outdoor Adventure package provides vacationers with an opportunity to experience a variety of easy to moderate outdoor activities including hiking, kayaking, horseback riding, and fishing.
The Week of Wellness offers morning workshops and a chance to try several healing and wellness modalities including shamanic healing, Reiki, Core Connexion movement practice, Hatha yoga and breath integration. "Alternative healing and wellness are becoming extremely popular and there are a number of exceptionally talented healers and wellness practitioners in the Kootenay Lake area," says Barb Reid, co-owner of the Tara Shanti Lodge.
The third package in the new series, the Kootenay Lake Golf Tour allows golfers of all levels of skill to play some of the best golf courses in British Columbia. Throughout the week, meals and transportation to the courses are looked after by the hosts -- all the golfer needs to do is play golf.
"These all-inclusive packages are really unique in that they provide a variety of experiences and learning opportunities in a one-week vacation, instead of a single activity," Rowland says. |
