All the Excuses for Higher Gas Prices Just Ran Out
No outsider should tell the average American how much to pay for gas.
But they do, foreign oil dependency is strangling America and calling the shots.
American motorists are riding the slippery slope of oil dependency – and it’s a one-way ride to a bottomless pit. Gasoline prices are higher than ever – and there’s no end in sight. But it’s not Saudi Arabia’s or OPEC’s fault. America politicians knew it was just a matter of time before the Middle East oil powers turned down the oil spigot. It didn’t have to happen that way. JOINFOIL.org – the Foreign Oil Independence League – has been telling you for three years to take heed.
Didn’t the oil embargoes of the 1970s and 1980s raise our awareness? Did the first Iraq War – and the burning Kuwaiti oil fields -- make us understand the volatility of oil as the world’s sole energy source? If all this didn’t sink in, then the 9/11 attacks led by terrorists funded by foreign oil interests should have been the mother of all wake-up calls. And here we are in 2004, watching fuel prices rise to $2 a gallon – and above.
If you’re going to point a finger, point it at the public for not speaking out. Do you have a voice? Do you have an opinion? Then do something! The sooner we stop letting our leaders deny our addiction to overseas oil and kick the habit, the better." The job on hand is to make our politicians answerable, accountable and responsive to the average American.
Too many politicians and Washington bureaucrats, for the most part, are virtually dominated by well-organized “public-be-damned” special interest groups. Like Big Oil. And Big Oil will continue to make obscene profits off the sweat of the middle class and their need to fuel their cars, trucks, farm equipment and semi-rigs. Politicians won’t suffer. They’ll call for a study, then sit back and count the campaign funding money coming under their door.
“The quest for alternative and renewable energy sources has been the redheaded step child of every administration since the first oil crisis,” said FOIL founder Stan Cotton. “If ever there was a problem that could be solved by throwing money at it, it is our need for a new, cheap, renewable replacement for oil. America threw money at putting a man on the moon in 10 years -- and achieved that goal using creativity, ingenuity and America guts.”
“It’s time,” said alternative fuel activist, Orrie Swayze, “ It is time to bypass bureaucratic dithering and demand action. Americans need to turn their rage against terrorists into support for made-in-USA oil-replacement that is already available.
The American public has the ultimate power -- if they use it with their collective votes, their angry e-mails and other visible signs of action as their rightful weapons -- to put pressure on politicians responsible for our energy policy to make some real changes. The answer is in-your-face patriotism to let the Washington lawmakers know you're on their case. Want freedom from foreign oil dependency? Fight for it.
FOIL has created a “Get Off Your Gas” car window decals and billboards campaign to help to put your message where your strength is. It’s simple and important to begin your process of creating a dialogue and a way to channel your outrage, log on to www.joinfoil.org
It’s your decision. To be a pump patriot or not.
